Little Langdale, Cumbria, England, 2003
The name Langdale comes from the Viking meaning long valley. In 1000 AD the area enjoyed considerable prosperity, with farming an important component. It was at this time that the fell side grazing land began to be controlled with the boundary dry stone walls which are such a distinctive feature of the landscape today.
